Small edits on your Google Business Profile can lead to more enquiries, more calls and more visibility on Google.

Feel free to share this page with your friends or families.

Work through the tips below over the next 30 days and tick them off as you go.

Tip 1: Adjust Your Opening Hours

If you accept calls or enquiries outside your listed hours, update your hours to match when you are actually available. This tells Google you are open for business when customers are searching, not just when your door is physically open.

Tip 2: Add Service Descriptions

Fill out the Services section for every key service you offer.

Use this prompt below (change the [industry] and [area]), check, and adjust the output before entering it into your Service description.

Write a service description for [industry] business in [area] to publish inside Google Business Profile.
The tone must be helpful, trustworthy and written for local customers who are ready to take action.

Include:
• Clear explanation of what the service includes
• Local recognisable areas, suburbs or landmarks
• Benefits such as speed, reliability, safety, affordability or expertise
• A short call to action that encourages the customer to contact the business

Do not:
• Use generic sales language like “best in town”
• Stuff keywords unnaturally
• Write long paragraphs

Write in one short paragraph (250–300 characters).

Tip 3: Use Your Q&A Section

You do not need to wait for customers to ask questions. Add your own frequently asked questions and answer them yourself. Examples:

  • “Do you offer same-day appointments?”
  • “Do you work after hours or on weekends?”
  • “Which suburbs do you service?”

This helps both customers and Google understand what you do.

Tip 4: Ask Better Review Questions

Instead of “Please leave us a Google review”, send customers your review link with one of these questions:

  1. Which suburb are you in and what service did we help with today?
  2. What problem did we solve for you in your area?
  3. What issue were you facing before contacting us?
  4. What part of your experience impressed you the most?

These prompts encourage people to naturally include useful keywords like services, locations, and outcomes.

Tip 5: Reply To Reviews With Intent

Reply to every review and gently repeat important details. For example:

“Thanks for your review, Sarah. Glad we could help with your hot water system repair in Balwyn. Reach out any time you need plumbing help again.”

This adds extra service and suburb keywords without sounding robotic.

Tip 6: Ask Clients To Upload Photos

Photos uploaded by customers are powerful trust signals. When you request a review, add a simple line such as:

“If you are happy with the result, a quick photo with your review would really help other locals find us.”

This works well for trades, property, beauty, fitness and many other industries.

Tip 7: Activate The Chat Function

Turn on the chat or messaging option inside your Google Business Profile. Let customers contact you via text message or WhatsApp directly from your profile. This is perfect for people who prefer messaging instead of calling and can increase the number of enquiries you receive.

Tip 8: Post Offers And Updates

Use Posts to share:

  • Limited-time offers and discounts
  • Seasonal promotions
  • Important business updates or events

Include a strong headline, clear dates and a call to action such as “Book now” or “Call today”. Even one post per month keeps your profile active and attractive.

Bonus Tip: Be Careful When Changing Your Address

Changing your business address inside Google Business Profile can trigger a re-verification. Google may ask you for a live video call or a recorded video to prove your location before your profile shows normally again.

This process can take time so there is a workaround to this.

  1. Ask 3-5 friends/families (or more depending on the result) to use their Google account. Make sure they don’t have any admin/manager access to your Google Business Profile
  2. Ask them to search for your business name and click Suggest an Edit on the Google Business Profile
  3. Enter the new address and press Submit.
